It’s easy to fit, reliable, and highly secure. The locking mechanism consists of a stainless steel bar mechanism that helps prevent forced entry and a two-turn lock mechanism on the internal side of the door so it can’t be easily opened. Tools Required

You only need a few basic tools:

Step-by-step Guide To Fitting The Lock

Step 1 – Apply the Template

Choose the correct template sticker provided in your kit. One sticker is for gates opening to the left, and the other is for the right. Stick this label onto your gate to mark where you’ll drill.

Step 2 – Drilling Pilot Holes

Drill pilot holes into the gate using the where the sticker indicates using the small drill bit included.

Step 3 – Marking the Main Hole

Take the 90mm flat drill bit to mark the central hole’s position. Do not drill through completely yet; just mark the position clearly.

Step 4 – Drill the Main Hole

Remove the sticker and carefully drill through the gate. Drill slowly to avoid breaking through abruptly on the opposite side. As soon as the drill bit begins to show on the other side, stop and switch sides, then complete drilling through from the opposite side.

Step 5 – Fitting the Lock Body

Insert the lock into the drilled hole. Using the provided Torx screws, secure the lock body into place.

Step 6 – Aligning and Fitting the Receiver Plate

Place the receiver plate against the lock and align it correctly. Mark the screw holes with your marker pen, then pre-drill these holes using the small drill bit provided. Secure the receiver plate into position with the screws.

Step 7 – Securing the Excursion Plate

Finally, fit the excursion plate over the lock on the outside of your gate or garage door. Secure it in place with the screws provided.

Enhanced Security Features

The Gate Mate lock includes a secure stainless steel bar, adding a significant barrier against forced entry. It requires two full key rotations before the key can be removed, providing enhanced security for your wooden gate or garage door.

A Thoughtful Touch for Wildlife

As an additional idea, consider a small arch or hole at the bottom of your wooden gate or garage door to allow wildlife, such as hedgehogs, to enter and leave your garden safely. It’s a simple addition that shows kindness to local wildlife.

Final Thoughts

Fitting a Gate Mate lock by Birkdale to wooden garage doors and gates is easier than you might expect. Follow these straightforward steps, and you’ll have secure, functioning locks in no time. Happy DIY!
